For Managers: Coaching Huddle
A focussed and collaborative 60 minutes for managers keen to continuously improve their effectiveness in everyday coaching, and connect with supportive peers around relatable scenarios shared by the group.
Enlightened managers embrace everyday coaching
From the range of styles available in our toolkit as modern managers, a coaching approach is arguably the one that should be reached for most in busy, collaborative and distributed teams.
When managers master the art of everyday coaching and actively spot coachable moments (spoiler alert: they're everywhere, and in all directions), they build a sense of autonomy and confidence to act in others. In turn, this gives managers time back. Time that can be dedicated to higher-value tasks. Win win!
In our Coaching Huddles, we bring together people-managers at all levels keen to continuously enhance their effectiveness in enabling and empowering others through an everyday coaching approach. And we make the absolute most of 60 minutes for an active and scenario based development session.
It's a great opportunity to practice core skills, connect with peers facing similar challenges — and recognise that you're not alone in the highs and lows that come with managing and developing others.
How the Huddles are structured:
Relatable workplace scenarios are created in advance, and used at the heart of the session. The scenarios enable reflection, discussion and the consolidation of learning among the group about the when and the how of a coaching approach. We look at things like taking a coaching approach to getting feedback flowing better, or helping others make decisions more independently.
Led by a YCN coach-facilitator time is spent as one group, and with a single breakout activity to allow connection and discussion in smaller groups, before we regroup to share key reflections and commit to onward action.
Who the Coaching Huddles are for:
First and foremost, people managers. And that's at any level — from senior leaders to newly promoted managers.
You may be currently building your management and coaching skills through a YCN programme, or have participated in a previous one and be keen to continuously practice and embed positive behaviours.
Or you might just be curious to come along, consider how you'd approach live scenarios and take-away tools and approaches to help flex that everyday coaching approach back in your own teams. Either way, we'd love to have you along.
